Hot Spinning & Shear Forming

Heating the workpiece extends what spinning can do: heavier walls, harder alloys, and the ability to close a tube down into a neck.

Neck forming shapes and reduces the diameter of a tube or container while the metal is hot, which is how gas cylinders, pressure vessels and cylinder liners get their closed ends.

Shear forming holds the same wall angle through the part rather than thinning it, so it suits conical sections that carry load.
